ACFF - AUSTRALIAN CHILDREN'S FILM
FESTIVAL
The 3rd Australian Children's
Film Festival (ACFF) is proudly presented by the Brisbane
City Council.
Films
suited for children aged between 9 and 12 are selected
from around the world to provide an opportunity for
children to develop an understanding of international
cultures through the medium of film.
Admission
is free to all children under the age of 18.
Artistic
Director Anne Démy-Geroe introduces this years Children's
Festival:
'The best reason
for having the Australian Children's Film Festival is
the scarcity of quality children's films. In this wonderful
selection, presented in association with the Brisbane
City Council, Australia is well represented. Animal
Tales, from highly acclaimed Australian animator
Lucinda Clutterbuck, is really for all ages. Accompanying
it are The Echidna and the Turtle, a film made by children
from a school in the Northern Territory, and, as well,
a film about the making of the film.
Children also
have a rare opportunity to see shorts, one of the most
innovative areas of contemporary filmmaking. Among these
charming films are more Australian animations, and just
to prove that filmmaking is definitely open to children,
is another example from Brisbane, the award-winning
live action film Swashbuckler'.
Children's
Titles:
Animal
Tales
(Lucinda Clutterbuck, Australia) -
Environmental
issues are explored through eight short cartoons each
centred on a different species facing extinction, including
the panda, the gorilla, the wolf and the Tasmanian Tiger.
Developed with the help of experts from Australia's
leading zoos.
The
Blue Butterfly
(Léa Pool, Canada) - Inspired by a
true story, this is a tale of strength through adversity
and aspiring to achieve your goals despite the challenges
life places in the way. 10 year old Pete Carlton, terminally-ill
with cancer, wanted to see the mythic Blue Butterfly
before he died...this is his adventure.
More
Animal Tales - A collection of entertaining
short films from around the world, suitable for children.
Includes Swashbuckler, a short made in Brisbane with
the involvement of a group of primary-aged children.
The
Flying Classroom (Tomy Wigand, Germany) - A
simply wonderful adaptation of Erich Kastner's beloved
children's adventure story. Twelve year old Jonathan
quickly makes friends at St. Thomas' school. One day
they find a script for a play called 'The Flying Classroom'.
They decide to liven it up with some hip-hop and put
it on as a Christmas show - but none of them can imagine
the effect it is going to have...
