BIFF Opening Night
Tuesday 29 July
The Opening Night of BIFF always goes off with a bang and
2003 promises to be a glitzy and glamorous affair. For your
Opening Night delight, BIFF proudly presents the world premiere
of local film Gettin' Square which follows the lives of a
group of small-time crooks who are trying to go straight,
but find themselves pitted against all the high-tech resources
of the newly formed Crime Investigation Commission. From the
back streets of Brisbane's Fortitude Valley to the glitz of
the Gold Coast, they call on their street-smarts and rat-cunning
style to get square.
Tickets for opening night are $65 and this includes the screening
as well as a smashing after party!

Showcase Screening 1 Laurel Canyon
Thursday 31 July
Presented by 4KQ
Writer/Director Lisa Cholodenko follows up her much-acclaimed
1997 debut High Art with this role reversal of 'out there'
parent somehow managing to raise a rebelliously conservative
and boring child in Laurel Canyon. Featured as part of the
Directors Fortnight in Cannes 2002, this US production will
launch the BIFF Showcase screenings on Thursday 31 July 2002
at the Greater Union Hoyts Regent Cinema. Slick and engaging
with a star-studded cast lead by Frances McDormand, Christian
Bale and Kate Beckinsale and a cool Indie score from Sparklehorse.
Post-screening the party will continue into the night with
some 500 revellers joining us for a party to match the slick
and thrilling film.
Tickets for the Showcase Screening only are $15. Stay tuned
for updates on the Post-Party bash.

Rage in Placid Lake.
With Rose Byrne (Two Hands) as his soulmate Gemma and Gary
McDonald (Mother and Son) and Miranda Richardson (The Hours)

Closing Night
Sunday 10 August
Closing Night is up close and personal. Writer/director Jim
Sheridan turns his lens upon his own family's experiences
immigrating to the United States in the aptly titled In America.
This loosely autobiographical tale follows a young Irishman's
dream to New York-complete with wife and children in tow.
This richly observed, beautifully written and performed picture,
layered with elements that are both amusing and touching but
never sentimental will bring the 12th Brisbane International
Film Festival to a close. Tickets for this gem are $15.
