Less than 5 minutes A secret ingredient Any format Any subject Any genre... |
All you have to do is write, shoot and edit a short filmic masterpiece in 50 days incorporating a very special ingredient - a fish! BIFF's Fast Film is back with a vengeance for its 6th year, and as the number of entrants escalate, filmmakers' creativity, originality and skills are tested to the max. And what do you get for all those sleepless nights and hard work? The glory of having your film watched by the public, judged by celebrities and key film industry personalities who have the ability to launch your filmmaking career, and have a whole lot of fun in the process. Not to mention the the $5000 worth of post-produciton facilities kindly donated by Cutting Edge Post and the $4500 cash up for grabs- not bad for a measly fifty days work. But don't forget the vital component. This year's secret ingredient is a FISH - inspired by this year's BIFF image of "cloud fish". Fish are brain-food like we believe film is and fish live in a rich and diverse world just like the world of film festivals. You may wish to have animated fish watching a movie or something as simple as a whole fish on a dinner plate, it is your choice, as long as the fish is visible, whole and easily recognisable as a fish she'll be apples. Whatever your preference make sure that a fish is there, so we know that you completed it within a speedy fifty days. Last year over 1000 spectators converged on the Brunswick Street Mall for the Fast Film finalists screening where the atmosphere was electric. People from all over Bris-Vegas called their mates, grabbed their blankies, cuddled up underneath the stars and tucked into a Fast Film feast. The creative duo of Julie Pitts and Miles Blow, won Fast Film in 2001 with the animation Gordon and have certainly reaped the benefits of 50 days work, receiving a Highly Commended for Best Open Film in the Warner Roadshow Studios 16th Queensland New Filmmakers Awards(QNFA). 2001 Fast Film runner-up Kiran Towsey was also recognised at this year's QNFA with her film, On Cue, scooping up a cool $2000 cash for the Award for Best Script... So if that is not enough inspiration for you to get out there and make a film, why not come along and watch them! This year the Fast Film finalist's screening is Sunday 14 July as one of the closing events of the Valley Fiesta, in the Brunswick Street Mall. Keep logging on for further updates! |
