ENTRIES OPEN FOR THE WARNER ROADSHOW STUDIOS
22ND QUEENSLAND NEW FILMMAKERS AWARDS (QNFA)

Presented by the Pacific Film and Television Commission, the annual Warner Roadshow Studios Queensland New Filmmakers Awards (QNFA) reaches its 22nd year in 2008!

The Awards are the biggest industry sponsored new filmmaker competition in the country, recognising and encouraging the achievements of emerging Queensland filmmakers.

The QNFA competition is open for entries from 14th April 2008 and will accept entries from Secondary Student Productions, Tertiary Student Productions and Independent filmmakers aged 30 years and under. All category, award and entry details can be found in the QNFA Entry Kit below.

In 2008 the ‘Open' category will be replaced by the Courier Mail Queensland Short Film Competition (QSFC) to be run in conjunction with the St.George Bank Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF). Information on the Courier Mail QSFC is available here.

The Kinetone Award, which recognises individual contributions to the Queensland Film and Television Industry, will be presented during the St.George Bank BIFF program in 2008, with nomination forms available soon.

Films submitted to QNFA are judged on creativity, originality and technical competence, with a selection of finalists films screened at the Public Screening event on Saturday 2nd August at the Regent Cinema. Sponsored prizes and awards are then presented to individuals for various craft categories as well as overall awards, at the QNFA Awards Presentation Ceremony Gala event on Saturday 9th August at the Tivoli Theatre.

Background

Over the last 20 years, judges have viewed over 2000 films and presented over 250 awards of excellence, with a prize pool totalling almost $300 000.

Previous QNFA winners have been showcased at national and international film festivals, including the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Winners include Ivan Sen, director of Beneath Clouds, which won Best Director at the Berlin Film Festival and at both the AFI and IF Awards, and Michael and Peter Spierig, who have enjoyed international success with their first feature film Undead and are currently working on their second feature film Daybreakers.
